Loan Periods, Limits, Fines & Charges

To ensure that the Library has an adequate supply of materials for all patrons, the following loan periods, fines apply to all patrons of the Douglas Library.

  • You are responsible for all the materials borrowed on your card and for any charges on items that are overdue, lost or damaged.
  • Fines are charged 7 days per week and includes closed days. Library materials must be returned before closing time on the due date.

  • Any material returned through the book return slot will be treated as returned on the last day the library was open.
  • Most items are circulated for fourteen (14) days and the fine for late material is five (5) cents a day. Video cassettes and compact discs are loaned for two (2) days with a $2.00 charge per day for a late item.

  • Charges for lost or damaged materials that have been catalogued will include a handling and processing fee. To replace a library item, several hours of staff time plus processing materials must be used before it is ready to be loaned. This fee is used to help cover the cost of this process.

  • If an item is currently on loan, you may reserve it.

  • You may return books borrowed from Douglas Library at any CT public library. Likewise, books borrowed from any CT public library may be returned at Douglas Library. Most material may be renewed only once. Most items can be renewed  unless someone has reserved the item. There are no renewals on videos, compact discs, magazines, or special loan material.
